Protecting Children Online

Children all of all ages worldwide have internet access.  It has replaced the television set as entertainment (and in many cases, a babysitter).  When parents allow their children to surf the internet alone, their child becomes "prey".

Children are trusting.  They will tell their location, their age, and their plans on their networks.  They post the name of their schools, their after school activities, where they like to hang out, a wealth of information for a predator.

There is software available for safe surfing.  The security breach is that predators will create accounts which present them as the same age of the children they wish to prey on.  An example of this was shown in the movie "First Kid".  (You may order this movie from Amazon below)

If your child uses a personal computer in their bedroom the best thing that you can do is move their computer to the family room, living room, or den.  If your child uses a Laptop ask that they surf the web in the room with you.  If they use a cell phone, limit their use of the internet on their phone.  There are many, many ways to protect your children.  You must be watchful and present in their internet activities.

You may obtain software to help you protect your children from NetNanny.com.
